Year 2

Dear Year Two Families,

As we approach the end of the school year it is with a heavy heart that Miss Pryce and Miss Tzourtzouklis farewell the very talented and hard-working group of children that were our year twos. The dedication and maturity the year two cohort displayed all year long was nothing short of inspiring and admirable, and although we’re sad to let them go, the children are certainly well-prepared, ready and excited to head to year three.

Throughout term four we worked hard to learn the Australian currency and familiarise ourselves with the Australian notes and coins. We learnt the value and denominations of the notes and coins, calculated cost and change, and even completed problem solving tasks with dollars up to the hundreds! We started to read time on an analogue clock to o’clock, half past and quarter past/to (that was tricky), and we learnt how to use a calendar as well as identify the seasons and weather patterns across the year. We loved our data topic – we collected information about our classmates and displayed the data in tallies and frequency charts, pictographs, bar graphs and even pie charts!

Our English topic saw us study non-fiction writing and our skills were put to the test as we wrote expositions to our Principal. After debating whether or not homework should be compulsory in primary schools, we developed our arguments, explained our ideas and wrote letters to Mr Ibrahim outlining why or why not primary IDC students should have homework.

Year two continued to thrive in STEM and science-based learning. We loved Ozobots and testing conductors and insulators in our circuits. We enjoyed Book Week celebrations and loved the character parade.

We wish our students the very best as they venture to the upper-primary department. We could not have asked for a more positive and supportive group of children and families to face 2020 together.

Stay safe and keep smiling,
Miss Pryce and Miss Tzourtzouklis
